CHILDREN AND ADOLESCNET MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE – IN EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT2008-12-08CHILDREN AND ADOLESCNET MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE – IN EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT From January 2007 State Mental Health Center (Lithuania) started conducting international project funded by European Commission „Child and adolescent mental health in enlarged European Union: development of effective policies and practices“ (CAMHEE) that join 35 partners from 16 European countries. On 9 December 2008 project partners, representatives of European Parliament, European Commission, mental health specialists will gather together in European Parliament for discussion „Modern approaches in promoting child mental health“ hosted by Lithuania European Parliamentarian Dr. Mrs. Jolanta Dickute. Discussion moderators are project‘ leader Ona Davidoniene and project‘ scientific leader Dainius Puras. Discussion initiated by CAMHEE project seeks to pay attention of key officers from European Parliament, European Commission to the issue of child and adolescent mental health, necessity to promote and prevent it as well as to modern ways to do that. CAMHEE project works on 4 child and adolescent mental health topics: • parenting and help for the families were parent(s) suffer from mental health problems; • (self)destructive behaviour prevention in school settings; • best practices in the field of child and adolescent mental health and economic evaluation; • country profiles of participating countries in the field of child and adolescent mental health. On 9 December 2008 discussion will be opened by presentation of Lithuanian European Parliamentarian Dr. Mrs. Jolanta Dickute „Child Mental Health in Enlarged European Union – challenges and new opportunities“. Project‘ scientific leader Dainius Puras will inform all the participants about CAMHEE project achievements and preliminary results. Project partners from Finland, University of Turku – Jorma Piha and Paivi Santalahti –will present preliminary results of conducted Finland country profile whereas Robertas Povilaitis from Vilnius University will share achievements in the field of (self)destructive behaviour prevention in school settings of participating countries. On 8 December 2008 project partners meet in Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union were they discuss project activities, share the results and work on forthcoming activities and events. This meeting is kindly hosted by Lithuanian health attaché Mindaugas Plieskis.
