EUROPEAN CONFERENCE on MENTAL HEALTH2007-09-13EUROPEAN CONFERENCE on MENTAL HEALTH:
JOINING FORCES ACROSS EUROPE
FOR PREVENTION AND PROMOTION IN MENTAL HEALTH

Barcelona, 13th – 15th September 2007
This call is to invite proposals for parallel sessions at the European Conference on mental health promotion and mental disorder prevention.
Parallel sessions should be highly participatory and should address issues such as supporting the development of strategies for action, bridging existing gaps, and sensitivity to the differences within and between European countries. Parallel sessions are not aimed to be a series of presentations, but rather interactive sessions which can bring together different groups to encourage sharing problems and finding solutions.
Sessions will be of 90 minutes duration, and could be structured in one of the following ways:
- Around a topic: e.g., prevention for children, mental health
promotion at the work place
- Around policy development: e.g. increasing knowledge, finding financial
support, developing infrastructures, creating political will
- Around implementation: e.g., programme implementers to share what works
and what does not work in implementation; what needs to be in place for effective implementation; barriers and how to overcome them
- Same type of professionals: e.g., policy makers’ session, researchers’ session;
issues related to specific problems or current topic areas (policy development, increasing political support, new research developments)
- Attendants from one country: e.g., all attendees from the same country or a
group of countries that share similarities in their situation, to discuss the problems encountered in public mental health and share and explore possible ways forward
- A consensus statement: e.g., developing a position on a given topic, policy
area or guidelines for future development
- Meeting of networks: e.g., organizing working sessions of existing
European Networks, NGOs or other groups
- Training sessions: e.g., implementing existing training, developing capacity during
the conference
